The Mission
Chinmaya Mission, a non-profit organization, was established in India in 1953 by devotees of the world-renowned Vedanta teacher, His Holiness Swami Chinmayananda. Today, Chinmaya Mission is a global spiritual powerhouse with over 250 centers in India, and 50 outside including the Seattle chapter.

Bala Vihar
It is for children ages 4 thru 17. ‘To help children learn Values with fun, to delight like the Moon and shine like the Sun’. In an atmosphere of love, children are imparted ethical, spiritual, Hindu cultural values based on Chinmaya Publications standard texts, bhajans, stotrams, Gita chanting, quizzes/ discussions etc. The classes are taught by trained Sevaks (volunteers) with a curriculum that is standard worldwide.

Yuva Kendra
Empower youth with vision, values and dynamism. Young adults are made aware of their potential through the study of scriptures in a rational, open minded atmosphere. Yuva Kendra also organizes and executes cultural, social service and spiritual programs.

Study Group
Systematic study of Vedanta for adults. Visiting parents, young couples and singles have an unique opportunity at the Mission to study scriptures/Gita based on Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s texts/ video lectures. As Pujya Gurudev said “The ideas gathered by you, when discussed with others in a study group, not only become deeply rooted in yourself, but as they become clearer in your own understanding, they also inspire those who listen to you”. Also benefit from our Wednesday study group (10:30 AM to Noon) at Sammamish.

Language Classes
Can your children speak to their grandparents in your native tongue? Do you want your kids to be multi-lingual? Research indicates intellectual benefits for multi-lingual children – we run Tamil, Telugu and Hindi classes with the potential to add other languages based on demand.

Children Magazine
A free monthly “Balvihar” International Children Magazine delivered to your home filled with Fascinating Factoids, Inspiring Stories, Telltale messages, puzzles, trivia, jokes and much more. Kids love it..

Spiritual Retreats & Camps
Chinmaya Mission organizes retreats and Vedanta camps in various cities worldwide. These camps give you an opportunity to be in continuous Satsang with Acharya’s of the Chinmayananda order and other like-minded individuals.

Celebrations
We celebrate the festivals in a traditional manner – Navaratri, Holi, Diwali, Shankranti, Pongal etc. Kid birthday celebrations, Mothers’ Day, Talent Shows, picnics, retreats and hikes round off our activities – all of which are designed to bring us together in a spirit of Satsang.

Community Seva
We work to better our community both here and at home – we volunteer at the Northwest Harvest and at the Seattle Tent Cities.

History
Seattle, Washington was blessed with Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s visit in the 1980s, and Chinmaya Mission (CM) presence in the community has been in existence since then. However, it was not until October 2004 that weekly Chinmaya Bala Vihar and Adult Study Group classes were actively conducted, formal membership was introduced, and Chinmaya Mission Seattle became an official unincorporated CMW center. These changes came through the inspiration and service of Ranga and Anuradha Pottabathni, who moved from Princeton, NJ to Seattle in 2003. Soon, a three-day Gita (Ch.12) Jnana Yajna by Swami Shantananda was organized at the Pottabathnis’ residence in 2004. It was during this visit that Swamiji blessed CM Seattle sevaks and sevika’s and officially inaugurated Bala Vihar (BV) and Study Group classes in Seattle.

We have steadily grown over the years and serve the cities of Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Bothell, Everett and the surrounding communities. We would love for you to join us as a member or as a sevak (volunteer) –  and help grow this mission. You will find a warm welcoming atmosphere, where we all learn together, work together and inspire each other in this spiritual journey.
